Position Summary
Voltage is hiring an entry-level Apprentice Data Center Technician to travel to Texas and support data center and telecommunications projects. This role is designed for candidates with little or no experience who are ready to learn and grow in the low-voltage industry. You will work alongside experienced leads and learn the fundamentals of fiber optics, structured cabling, rack & stack, testing, and basic security/A/V low-voltage work while following safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities (Training + Hands-On)
Fiber Optic Support (Entry Level)
Assist with pulling, routing, dressing, and labeling fiber optic cables
Support termination prep (cleaning, organizing, protecting connectors)
Assist with basic splice support tasks (setup, organization, materials)
Learn testing fundamentals (OTDR/power meter basics) and documentation
Structured Cabling (Copper – Cat6/Cat6A)
Pull and route Cat6/Cat6A cable through pathways and cable trays
Assist with dressing, cable management, labeling, and patching
Support terminations (keystone jacks/patch panels) under supervision
Learn basic testing and verification procedures
Rack & Stack / Data Hall Deployments
Assist with installing racks, ladder rack, cable managers, and related hardware
Support installation of patch panels, switches, servers (as assigned)
Maintain organized, clean work areas and tool accountability
ISP/OSP & Pathways (As Assigned)
Assist with installing J-hooks, conduit supports, sleeves, and cable tray systems
Support pathway builds and cable routing plans under lead direction
Low-Voltage Security / Access Control / A/V (As Assigned)
Assist with pulling and labeling cable for card readers, door contacts, and devices
Support basic A/V cabling and device mounting under supervision
Quality & Safety
Follow Voltage and site safety rules (PPE, ladder safety, lift safety where applicable)
Maintain labeling standards and clean workmanship
Help with daily reporting, photos, and closeout documentation (as-builts)
Required Qualifications
Entry level / Apprentice mindset—willing to learn and take direction
Ability to travel to Texas and work on-site
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work (standing, climbing ladders, bending)
Reliable transportation to reporting location (or as required by travel plan)
Professional attitude, punctuality, and strong work ethic
Basic English communication preferred (bilingual is a plus)
Preferred (Not Required)
Any cabling, construction, or hands-on tool experience
OSHA 10/30 (or willingness to obtain)
Familiarity with basic hand tools, drills, and cable labeling
Data center experience is a plus but not required
Work Schedule & Travel
Traveling role based in Texas (project location may vary)
Shifts may include nights/weekends depending on site requirements
Per diem / travel support may be provided according to project policy
